Gesticulation
This is an ongoing project about gestures and communication. The hands are the closest organs to the brain and move according to signals received from it. They are the tools that reflect a vision of the mind and they facilitate transmission and expression of that visualisation during speech. Hand gestures are vital to our verbal conversation and sometimes we communicate with gestures without a word. We draw invisible objects to describe what we say or think. In reality, those spatial drawings have no meanings but they help us to create an abstract image of the mind.
The gestures do vary from one individual to another. Naturally, we all are different, our imagination, thoughts, and expressions are never the same, which makes gestures unique. With this first video project, I explore the relationship between gestures and languages. My question is how gestures change when a person speaks more than one language, how fluency of the language affects one's gestures. The model in this video speaks seven languages.
